The 14th March line up is . . .
The Rural Broadband is our feature act. We also welcome back Huw Tarry, Kristin King, Peter Ivey, Searching for Autumn and Undercurrent, plus new to Peppard Unplugged: Rain Dogs and Tim Coulson. The MC is Mike Tuffery.
(Subject to change, as usual because sometimes 'stuff happens'!)
Acoustic music!
The Rural Broadband is Robert Buttrick, Fay Freemantle and Mike Tuffery, giving us a mix songs of love, lust, and parting. Seen at Bunkfest, GAP Festival, GSMC's Acoustic Cafe and many other venues in the area.
Robert organizes the music side of Peppard Unplugged, Mike and Fay are MCs and Fay (with Kevin) you'll also have met on the pay desk! A multi-tasking community effort! Mike also runs the Acoustic Jam in Quirky Corner at The Flowing Spring.
Huw Tarry writes indie, folk rock adjacent songs inspired by the likes of The Shins, Wilco, Laura Marling, Alex G and Big Thief. Songs about life, the universe and his cat. Also on Instagram
Huw also runs the open mic Sunset Sessions @ The Rising Sun Arts Centre in Reading.
Undercurrent is a Reading-based trio performing thought-provoking material drawn from multiple sources – traditional, contemporary singer-songwriter, Americana and rock. Featuring guitar, concertina, mandola, mandolin and more.
Danny and Ali are also MCs at Peppard Unplugged and serve on the committee that runs Readifolk and run the Castle Tap sessions
Kris King is a local singer-songwriter performing a mix of originals and covers both folky and contemporary. She has been around for donkey's years bodging away on guitar and emoting merrily at open mics and car parks.
Peter Ivey is a fingerstyle guitarist with a vast range of songs to entertain. Often seen on Folk O'Clock.
Searching for Autumn is an acoustic duo playing original music, with haunting melodies and lyrics guaranteed to capture the audience's ear. See also Spotify.
Rain Dogs is Leigh Williams and Nick Parker. You might recognise Leigh as the double bassist in much-loved local acts The Mysteries and Heather Jayne and The Red Shoes. Nick has previously played at Peppard Unplugged as guitarist in T-Bone Marmaduke & the Massive Gamble, and half of the duo Clatter. Rain Dogs is where Leigh and Nick share their love of Tom Waits and other assorted folk, blues and dark-witted melancholia.
Nick runs the Soundbar open mic in Goring.
New to Peppard Unplugged!
Tim Coulson plays acoustic guitar (left handed!) and sings a range of songs from originals to covers from jazz standards to lesser known gems. Acoustic guitar players he loves include John Renbourn, John Martyn and Joao Gilberto. He used to mainly play in bands such as Heather Jayne and the Red Shoes playing a mixture of styles but now it’s solo for the first time in years.
